Intro

All aboard! Welcome to the States, the land of endless opportunities—where even your pizza can have a 3-hour delivery guarantee! Now, “Coming to America” is hailed as one of the greatest movies ever, but let’s be real, did they forget to show the part where everyone’s trying to parallel park like it’s a high-stakes game of Tetris?

“In comedy, you often find the truth in the laughter. It’s not about making people laugh; it’s about connecting with their hearts.” — Eddie Murphy

Prince Hakeem, played by Eddie Murphy, is supposedly ready to rule over Zamunda after his father, yet he seems intent on choosing a more challenging path for himself. He decides to go to Queens, which feels like a troubling sign—a metaphor for the beginning of the end. Watching this movie now gives me a different perspective than my younger self, prompting a slew of questions that make me wonder what the creators were really trying to say.

Body

He meets his stunning wife, handpicked by his father, and she appears delightful at first, mirroring Prince Hakeem’s interests. You might think the film wraps up here, but let’s be real—these stories never play out like fairy tales. Leaving a life of luxury for the gritty streets of Queens, New York, home to the Mets and rundown projects? An unimaginable leap! And those barbershop scenes? I have to admit, they’re gut-bustingly hilarious, especially when Joe Louis and King Jaffe get roasted by the barbers—pure gold.

“Laughter is the universal language, but the punchline is what truly connects us.” — Arsenio Hall

Prince Hakeem just can’t seem to shake off his royal life in Zamunda; he’s itching to hop on a plane to Queens for some epic adventures! I mean, come on, at this point, the movie takes a wild turn—it’s practically a horror show! Who in their right mind would trade a palace for a foreign land without a clue of what they’re doing? And let’s be real, his dad would have dropped the royal scepter and said, “You want to go where? Are you out of your royal mind?”

Conclusion

Let’s get real—he simply wouldn’t stand a chance. Kings from other nations have rejected their thrones just to chase a fleeting dream in America. Sure, the movie still delivers, thanks to the phenomenal performances of Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall. But can we talk about that unforgettable “shed your queen” monologue? It hit so hard I nearly spilled my coffee with all the feels.

“The best medicine is laughter; it can heal the soul and bring us all together.” — Eddie Murphy

But let’s be real, Prince Hakeem really pulled a “look what I found” move by ditching Zamunda. He traded in his lovely wife for a girlfriend who, plot twist, already had a boyfriend and a sister who’s definitely the star of some reality show. Seriously, leaving paradise for Queens? That’s like swapping a gold crown for a pizza box! Did you catch a glimpse of that apartment? I mean, I’m no interior designer, but yikes! Dad threw a royal tantrum when he caught wind of it, while Mom was basically googling “how to save your son from himself.” Remember, you’re way more important than you think—take it from a prince who could use some serious life advice! Have a hilariously great day!
