Have you ever noticed how many people of color are supervisors? I’ve noticed a large number of older women in these positions, especially women of color. While this is not the focus of this article, it’s worth mentioning. The real issue is who gets bullied in the workplace. In my experience, young people, particularly young men who are not well-connected, are the most targeted. This is not to say that other demographics don’t experience harassment. But, the plight of young men is often overlooked.

I’ve observed young men being verbally assaulted for minor reasons, and even for no reason at all. People shouldn’t be treated nicely just because. Still, it’s clear that if any other group were subjected to this level of harassment, action would be taken. These young men are often targeted by older women. These women treat them as they would their own sons. They are also treated like the fathers of their children. The level of abuse and cattiness is unbearable, and any man can attest to this. While other demographics also have their own stories, the severity of the situation for young men is unparalleled.

It’s already difficult enough for us to enter the workforce with two strikes against us.

As young men, we are constantly assumed to be guilty of something. We are endlessly reminded of our past mistakes. We are also reminded of potential mistakes. Let me give you some insight: the majority of young men just want to do their job and go home. We are not interested in making friends or getting involved in workplace drama. We simply want to do our work and leave. We often have to attend sensitivity training sessions. We face these and other forms of what we perceive as nonsense. This is because we are insensitive to other demographics. But, the truth is that we face discrimination every day because of our gender. This happens more than for any other demographic in the workplace.

If you don’t believe me, just ask anyone who is honest. I would estimate that at least 70% of workplaces are like this. Let me clarify. I am specifically referring to young men who are not well-connected. They make up the majority of men in the workplace. Men who are well-connected often get special privileges, but they are the minority. Older men have an easier time in certain areas. Still, they have also faced similar challenges in the past.

Types of Personalities: In the workplace, understanding different personality types can enhance teamwork and productivity.

1. The Leader: Often takes charge, motivates others, and is decisive in decision-making, fostering an environment of collaboration and direction.

2. The Mediator: Skilled in conflict resolution, this personality thrives on ensuring harmony within the team, bridging gaps between differing opinions, and promoting a cooperative atmosphere.

3. The Innovator: Constantly seeking new ideas and solutions, this personality challenges the status quo and encourages creative thinking, driving the team to explore uncharted territories.

There is a common misconception that young people don’t want to work. Still, if you were to separate the younger men from the rest, I guarantee you would see amazing productivity. It’s difficult to do a job when someone is constantly breathing down your neck. As always, have a great day and remember that you matter more than you think.

“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are. In that journey, we must embrace both the light and the darkness that resides within us. It is through understanding and integrating these aspects that we find wholeness. Goodbye.” — Carl Jung
